Pastis - a food blogger wannabe's review

About a week ago, I went to a food tasting @ Pastis Kitchen and Bar, located at Kuningan Suites (Opposite Four Seasons, right next to Ar-Rahman school) with my husband. Updated about it in my FB status, with a promise of a full review coming up soon. So here it comes!

First of all, a little disclaimer here, I'm not a professional restaurant/food critic. Not even a food blogger, as I don't focus on writing about food/restaurants. So don't expect a state of the art review out of this post v(^^;;

Okay, so first.. About the place itself. I instantly liked the look and feel of Pastis, as it looks so warm and welcoming. The interior is very white-ish, but not at all did it seem too clean or cold, as it is also decorated with colorful elements, like the big red flower centerpiece near the entrance door. At the left there is a bar, and the area on the right is for the dining tables + chairs. Behind the bar there is another area for dining, but here we see couches instead of chairs, so I think it would be more suitable to ask to be seated there if you're planning to chill out for a while. The kitchen is right in the middle, semi open - so you can catch a glimpse of the chefs and their team. In a way, it kinda made me feel like I'm in the set of "No Reservations" (Catherine Zeta Jones & Aaron Eckhart's movie), haha. There is another area outside of the restaurant, a backyard.. Which will be made as an oudoor lounge called, yup you guessed it, "backyard" ^^ but this won't be opened until the end of the year (which is tomorrow). The place is quite big if you want to hold an event here, for birthdays, anniversaries, farewells, and for my fellow BB colleagues.. this place would be good to hold a media gathering/press conference :)

Now, the food. Again, not a pro here folks, so this will pretty much be a broad review of not bad, delicious, and super delicious ^^;;

For the appetizer, we had Roast Duck Salad and Seafood Salad. I have no complaints about the seafood salad, it tastes fresh, and the portion is quite generous for an appetizer. As for the roast duck salad, the duck itself tastes good and it doesn't smell fishy (How do you say "amis" in English?), but the dressing is a bit too sour for my taste. So if you can't really handle a sour taste, I suggest you go for something else.

And then we had the main course.

What we officially ordered was Lamb Chop and Tagliatelle Salmon (then my sister and her friends came along and ordered a bunch of other things that we tasted as well ;p). The lamb chop was greaatt...! I absolutely loved it! The meat was juicy, and the seasonings were well marinated into the meat. Bayu ordered this one, and in a way I regret not being the one ordering it, so I can have more of that lamb chop, haha. But my choice wasn't a bad one at all.. I mean, you can't go wrong with pasta, salmon, cream sauce, and a hint of vodka, right? v(^^ But for the ladies, I must warn you.. the portion is quite big (when I say it's big, then it really is), so unless you're planning to feast on this cream sauce pasta, you better share this one.

The other main menu that I tried was Baked Eggplant, Shrimp Mayo, and Pan Fried Chicken Breast with Mustard Sauce. I only tried a bit of each, but all tasted good. I especially liked the baked eggplant, it was like lasagna but instead of using pasta for the layers, it uses eggplants. Kinda like Moussaka at Greek Restaurants, perhaps.

And then came the desserts. The wonderful desserts.
My personal fave was the Chocolate Mousse. The only complaint I had about it was that the portion was too small, haha. But when I came back the next week, the portion had been enlarged, so all is good ^^ There's this one other dessert that I loved, but I forgot the name.. it was quite complicated to remember ^^;; But it was semi frozen fresh cream, that I know for sure. So if you want to try it, just ask the waiter for something that has fresh cream in it :)

That's all for the review. I hope you find this useful!

PS:It turns out I do enjoy writing about food as much as I enjoy eating it, haha v(^^
PPS: I wanted to include some pics I took in this post, but it's taking me forever to upload it, so I'll just do it another time

Helo,
I came across your blog in Google while searching for Pastis in Kuningan Suites. Your review is valuable and here's a suggestion to make it more informative. How about including a price range? That would be pretty neat!
Thanks!
