Another Farewell

Today the mother of Yusuf,one of my brother's baseball club team mates,passed away. I don't know how old she was, but I figured she couldn't have been that old, as her oldest son just graduated high school..

I didn't know her and her children personally, I may have met her a few times during Jak-Mac (the baseball club's name)'s family gatherings or at some of the games.. But as there were always many,many parents involved, I couldn't remember which was which ^^;;

Last night there was a pengajian, a religious gathering, at my house, inviting the Jak-Mac team and their families, to pray for her (she was still in ICU last night), and also for my late dad. After we finished praying, Yusuf came with his grandmother, and I was there to witness him crying over his mother's sickness, accompanied by his team mates who were all trying to console him. Right there, I started crying, and went straight up to my room. I couldn't stand it, seeing him crying like that. It reminded me of myself, four months ago, when I lost my dad. Last night I had wished that everything will be OK, so he wouldn't have to endure that pain of losing a parent.. But Allah had a different plan, and so today he had to bid farewell to his mother, for good.

I didn't know Tante Hanny, Yusuf's mother, personally. And I didn't realize which of the Jak-Mac's kids was Yusuf up until last night.. But I understand his pain, and the pain everyone else must felt when they lost an immediate family member. There's that huge hole in your heart that you cannot fill, and tears that keep coming back, until you don't know when. And it doesn't make any difference how old you are at the time, it will still hurt. Like someone said to me when my father passed away, "Losing a parent, at any age, is always hard". It definitely is.

I hope Yusuf and his family will get through this. (I guess I'm also speaking for myself and my family when I say this..) It won't be easy, but it's something that needs to be done, to continue with their lives, remembering and continuing her good values and becoming better people, so later when they are reunited, they can say, "Thank you, you have made me a better person"

So long Tante Hanny, too bad we didn't get to be more acquainted, but you can hear all about me from my dad over there.. :)

heavenly blush : "Sour Sally Perjuangan"

Lydia, I'm using your "Sour Sally Perjuangan" (SSP) term here yah! (^^

As a huge fan of Sour Sally (SS), I've been longing to see the day when they open an outlet in PIM (be it PIM 1 or 2, couldn't care less). Hence I was so disappointed when I read in the leaflet that they're planning to open outlets in Pacific Place, fx, MTA... With no PIM in the pic T_T

A couple of days ago, I noticed heavenly blush (HB)'s banners in front of PIM2, with pic of what looked like a sundae.. But then I saw the words "guiltlessly satisfied". And I immediately thought to myself, could this be an SSP opening soon @ PIM2..?

And then Lydia confirmed that it was in fact true. HB did sell fro-yo with toppings, just like SS. After I got her FB message, I went straight to PIM with Bayu to give it a try v(^^

HB is located at Restaurant Row (3rd floor), you can easily spot the playful design, dominated with fuchsia and lime green. A bit SS-ish, to be honest ^^;; the bar was just like SS where you can see a selection of toppings to choose from. The yoghurt selection however, was a bit different. If at SS they only have plain, green tea, and a twist of both; HB have 6 choices : plain original (less sour), plain zero (more sour), pomegrenade, green apple, ori + pome, and zero + gr. apple. The topping scheme is exactly the same as SS : small = 1 topping, medium = 2 toppings, large = 3 toppings. Price wise, it's a bit more expensive than SS. If at SS a medium plain would cost you 29.5K, at HB it would cost you 33K instead. I don't remember SS's full price list, but for HB's you can check out the pic, hopefully you'll be able to make out the numbers.

As today was my first time trying HB, I decided to go with small plain original, (although I was actually more intrigued with the supposedly more sour plain zero), with of course, longan for the topping ;p the first thing I noticed was that they were very stingy with the topping. They like only gave me 3 (yes, three!) longans! I don't exactly remember how many longans I got when ordering a small cup at SS, but it's definitely more than three! (Lydia, maybe your mom can pass on this comment to her friend :p). However, the yoghurt serving was more generous, not hollow in the middle.. alias nda bolong bagian tengahnya kayak di SS hehe ^^;;

As for the taste, I think the original is still too sweet for me. It had that sour taste, but not sour enough. Also, it was a bit cremier than SS (but only a bit, don't imagine creamy and milky like J Cool - J Co's fro-yo). However, I gave their plain zero + gr. apple a try (they were handing out samples in front of the outlet), and I liked the texture and the sour taste. Wasn't too fond of the green apple flavor though, so I guess next time I'd have to go with plain zero :) But anw,I think it's good for them to have both original and zero, so people can choose based on their preference, whether they like their fro-yo less sour or more sour. I have to comment a bit about the topping though, the longans tasted a bit weird; dry and not fresh. I think I've bought canned longans at supermarkets that taste better, and my guess is that both SS and HB use canned longans, but from different brands. So maybe, just maybe, they can go to SS,try out their longan topping, and search for something that tastes exactly like that ^-^

All and all.. I think heavenly blush is good news to all fro-yo lovers residing near PIM (like me and Lydia, right darl?), and a good treat to all who wants to taste a guiltless dessert with a little less sour taste ( don't forget, if you fall into this category.. always go for plain original!)

Long live heavenly blush: "Sour Sally Perjuangan" \(^^)/
