The Japan Trip - Part 1

When I first told people that Bayu and I will be going to Japan, I must say that their reactions were not really supportive: “Why Japan?, Isn’t it expensive there?” or something along the lines of, “Why Japan? Why not Europe instead? Wouldn’t the cost be just about the same?”

Well, those who had known me for quite some time would know that I am a total Japan freak. I love practically everything about it, I love the language, I love the food, I love the culture. And not just that, to add to my freakiness, I am also a big fan of the artists, especially those from Johnny’s Entertainment, kikiki v(^^

Add the above to the fact that one of my mom’s best friends is currently assigned in Tokyo, and one of Bayu’s cousins, Indri, is being assigned in Ashiya (near Kyoto and Osaka).. Which means Bayu and I can stay at their places (hehe).. voila! No reason not to go to Japan!

And I’m so very super glad that we did.

I looooveeeee being in Japaaan…! I love to hear people talking in Japanese, I love being able to speak in broken Japanese, practising what I learned from my Japanese course years ago (and also from all the doramas I’ve watched ;p), I love seeing with my own eyes things that I only saw in Japanese doramas.. everything about being there just made me super excited!

Somebody asked me yesterday, “What is it about Japan that impressed you the most?” Since I love everything about Japan, and everything there impressed me, I paused to think.. And then I answered, “The people.” For many different reasons, from the basic hospitality traits, meaning their nice behaviours, their very orderly fashion (unlike the people in Jakarta who don’t seem to understand the meaning of queuing), to their skill in parking (seriously, their parking space is like the car size + 20cm!). But there’s one thing I super admire about them, which is their ability to sleep in subways, at any condition, even standing! And it seems that their body already has this mechanism that tell them to sleep once they get on the subway, and to wake up when they’ve reached their destination! Seriously, every time I get on a subway, people who came with me immediately fell asleep after they found a spot. (I actually have a picture that shows everyone sleeping, but I can't seem to upload it here, aarrgghh!!)

After a while, the sleeping anywhere thing becomes something I quite mastered. But I’m not that expert yet, only can do sleeping while sitting, not yet while standing haha. And as I quickly learned from Nita, there are situations that require you to sleep (or pretend to sleep) immediately, like when you’re super tired and you’re sitting in the courtesy seat section. Yes I know, it’s very un-noble of me to do that.. but seriously, after those long walk around town, I think all my bones are turning to those of a jompo hahaha..

I wrote Part 1 in the title because I aim to write at least another post about this trip. Let’s see v(^^
